What We Do
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate the Chamorro people and the broader public in the preservation of our native language, heritage, and culture. We strive to perpetuate, promote, and safeguard the Chamorro heritage, culture, language, education, arts, humanities, and history while fostering Chamorro cultural awareness through programs, support services, activities, and education.
Baila (Dance) Season
January- July
Our Three Major Events:
Mandanña Mariånas - March
Mes CHamoru (CHamoru Month) - March
Guam Liberation - July
During our baila season, our Ininan family works together to create outstanding presentations displaying the CHamoru culture. All of the dåndån (music) we sing are in the CHamoru language, every dance move is symbolic, and all of our magågu (clothing) is detailed with our culture. We have displayed our presentations in Hawai’i, California, and all around Texas, displaying our passion and commitment to preserving the CHamoru customs and language.
Learning/Off Season
September - December
During our off-season, we rest our bodies from dancing, and we nourish our minds. During these four months, we dedicate our time to learning the CHamoru language, history, and tradition, and who we are as CHamorus. This learning break connects us to our people and reminds us of why we continue to educate and promote our heritage during our baila season. This time also gives us a chance to bond with one another and grow friendships, strengthening Ininan Mariånas as a whole.
Ininan Marianas is dedicated to preserving and promoting the CHamoru heritage. We educate the youth and others in the community about CHamoru tradition, language, dance (Bailan CHamoru), singing, and chanting. Our goal is to ensure our culture thrives for future generations, as the CHamoru language has been identified as endangered.
